Sermons are posted for the previous 3-4 months.
Sermon Title: The Trinity
Date: 15/6/25

Lay reader: Tania Nelson
Text:
Romans 15:1-5
Summary: The concept of the Holy Trinity is, in many ways, difficult to understand, but it's significance and influence on the life of a Christian is great. This sermon seeks to explain how the Father, Son and Spirit interact in our lives
Sermon Title: What will be your legacy?
Date: 8/6/25

Preacher: Pastor David Altus - delivering sermon supplied by Pastor Andrew Pfeiffer
Text: Genesis 11: 1-9

Summary: In the Bible account on which this sermon is based we hear how the population of the world after the flood sought to make a name for themselves by building a tower that would reach to heaven. God was not pleased. May we be aware that our legacy comes from God rather than ourselves.
Sermon Title: Praying for unity
Date: 1/6/25
Lay reader:  Brian Quick
Text:
John 17:20-26
Summary: In the Bible text on which this sermon is based we get to listen in on Jesus praying for us - how amazing that the Son of God actually prays for us! We read of how unity with Him and each other is one of his greatest priorities for us.
Sermon Title: The heavenly city
Date: 25/5/25
Preacher: Pastor David Altus
Text:
Revelation 21:10, 22-22:5
Summary: As Christians, one of the things that we often think about, most likely more frequently as we approach our death, is 'what will heaven be like'. In this sermon we hear of the vision of John found in the book of Revelations that provides an insight that is spectacular.
Sermon Title: Inside out
Date: 18/5/25
Preacher: LCA SA-NT District Bishop Andrew Brooks
Text:
Acts 11:1-18
Summary: In Old Testament times the people of Israel had a relationship with God based on the covenant originally delivered through Abraham which required believers to separate themselves from non-believers by observing numerous laws. Jesus turned this thinking 'inside out' when He proclaimed that He had come to save all people, regardless of location, race or creed. Those of us who are not Jews thank God for such a dramatic change.
Sermon Title: Your good shepherd
Date: 11/5/25 (Good shepherd Sunday)
Preacher: Pastor Andrew Pfeiffer
Text:
Psalm 23
Summary: In this sermon Pastor Pfeiffer takes us through this well-known and beautiful psalm extracting the reassuring messages from God that have such practical meaning for our lives.
Sermon Title: From failure to success
Date: 4/5/25
Lay reader: Brian Quick
Text:
John 21:1-19
Summary: In the text on which this sermon is based we hear of an event where Jesus' disciples were experiencing a dismal fishing failure, until Jesus suggested that they through the fishing net out on the other side of the boat. Suddenly, success! One of the important lessons we learn from this is that we so often want to do things our way rather than listen to Jesus.
Sermon Title: His story is HISTORY
Date: 28/4/25
Preacher: Pastor Bob Wiebusch
Text: John 20:19-29

Summary: Today in popular media we unfortunately have supposedly learned scholars stating that the resurrection is not a historical event, but rather a story to simply provide hope. However, the Bible demonstrates convincingly that the account of Jesus' death and resurrection is truly history - a history that transforms our lives.
Sermon Title: Easter - the great disrupter
Date: 20/4/25 - Easter Sunday
Preacher: Pastor David Altus
Text:
Luke 24:1-12
Summary: What happened 2000 years ago when Jesus was resurrected was a disrupting event that shook the world, the reverberations of which have rolled on over the centuries since then. Are you prepared to dare to believe this and what it means for you in these uncertain times?

Sermon Title: Approaching God with confidence
Date: 18/4/25 - Good Friday
Preacher: Pastor Andrew Pfeiffer
Text:
Hebrews 10:19-25
Summary: This text from Hebrews provides a wonderful perspective on the death of Jesus and its implications for us, primary among these being that His death enables us to approach God, despite out sinfulness, knowing that we have been forgiven.
Sermon Title: Commands and promises
Date: 17/4/25 - Maundy Thursday
Preacher: Pastor Andrew Pfeiffer
Text:
1 Corinthians 11:23-26 and John13: 34
Summary: On the night before Jesus' death, He gave a supper for his disciples. At this supper which we now refer to as the Lord's Supper He gave a command regarding the regular observing of this supper into the future for all who would call themselves Christian. He also gave a command that people who would follow Him should love one another as He has loved us. By this all will know that we are his disciples.
Sermon Title: Jesus coming to us
Date: 13/4/25 - Palm Sunday
Lay reader: Tania Nelson
Text:
Luke19:28-40
Summary: The Bible reading on which this sermon is based records the event of Jesus coming to the people in Jerusalem as king, but not in a conventional way on an impressive horse, but paradoxically, on a donkey. This is powerful metaphor of how Jesus still comes to us today. Let us not reject him as some did on that day and then massively only a few days later.
Sermon Title: Shamed, but forgiven
Date: 30/3/25
Lay reader: Tania Nelson
Text:
Luke:1-3, 11-13
Summary: Shame! You are not human if you have not experienced it. Shame can last forever unless something is done about it. The good news is that Jesus has dealt with shame for us. Listen to this sermon about the lost son to appreciate the sheer magnitude of His act of grace.
Sermon Title: Second and third chances
Date: 23/3/25
Lay reader: Dennis Clark
Text:
Luke 13:1-9
Summary: The Bible text on which this sermon is based poses some deep and significant questions about responsibility of mis-fortunes that occur in our lives and who deserves punishment. Ultimately however, the good news is that God is patient, and regardless of our failings, provides us with lots of opportunities to repent and turn to Him.
Sermon Title: Determination and compassion
Date: 16/3/25
Preacher: Pastor Sean Hotinski
Text:
Genesis 15:1-12, 17-18 and Philippians 3:14-4:1
Summary: In this sermon that is based on Jesus' response to an attempt by the Pharisees to get Him to flee from Herod and also on the account of God establishing His covenant with Abraham, we see the themes of Jesus' determination to persist in his mission of salvation, despite any obstacles and His compassion for all people, even those who appose Him. Themes that provide us with comfort and reassurance today.
Sermon Title: Temptation - our spiritual Achilles tendon
Date: 9/3/25
Preacher: Pastor Bob Wiebusch
Text:
Luke 4:1-13
Summary: We all have our weaknesses, our Achilles tendon, even though we may try to portray ourselves as strong and resilient. The devil is all too well aware of this and uses it to get us to fail. In the account in Luke, we hear how Jesus, though tempted, resisted and did not fail, consistent with his status as the Son of God who saves and forgives us, despite our being tempted.
Sermon Title: To ashes you will return
Date: 5/3/25 (Ash Wednesday)
Preacher: Pastor David Altus
Text:
Joel 2:1-2, 12-17
Summary: As we begin the period of Lent we are reminded of our true state, our state of sinfulness and the fact that our lives are limited and that ultimately, we will face death. But we are also reminded that death has been defeated and we will have an eternal existence beyond this life.
Sermon Title: Three things to remember
Date: 2/3/25
Preacher: Pastor Matt Bishop
Text:
Luke 9:28-36
Summary: This sermon was the last one preached by Matt as the pastor of the St Paul church. He encourages the members of St Paul to be 8th day people, exodus people and Christ's people. Listen to find out more.
Sermon Title: Pointing to Christ
Date: 16/2/25
Preacher: Bishop Paul Smith (Bishop of the Lutheran Church of Australia and New Zealand)
Text:1 Corinthians 15:1-15
Summary: This sermon was preached at the special service where Vicar Sean Hotinski, who had served as vicar at St Paul church during 2024, was officially ordained for the ministry in the Lutheran church. Although intended to inspire Sean in his future ministry it also speaks to all of us.
